Can you replace a broken arm on glasses?
After you've spent time and money ensuring your prescription is up to date, it's reasonable to look for a fix rather than a replacement. Depending on the damage, it is possible to fix a broken glasses arm with an eyeglasses repair kit, glue, and several other DIY methods.
For plastic frames, consider using epoxy glue. Clean the broken area with warm water and dab dry with a clean cloth. Then apply a small amount of epoxy glue to the broken area and allow the glue to dry for 1-2 hours before use. You can also use tape—which may be the best method for metal frames.
Say goodbye to loose screws that over time can make wearing glasses uncomfortable and even fall out. Just one tiny drop of Loctite Super Glue Liquid repairs eyeglasses in no time, so you can get back to your day.
If your metal frames have already snapped, do not attempt to glue or solder them together (heat can literally melt the lenses). Take them to an optician, where they can be properly replaced. When fixing bent acetate frames, hot steam or water can make your glasses pliable.
The solution? Carry a microfiber sleeve and stick them in a pocket. With no arms, they are flat and should not crush. Overall, these are a really unique new style of sunglasses.
Over time, the arm of your glasses may break or fall off due to excess wear and tear. Generally, this is due to the hinge screw, holding the arm and frame together, falling out.
A bent or broken hinge, a cracked frame or arm, a lost nose pad or hinge pin – in most cases all of these problems and more can be fixed fast. Even titanium eyeglasses snapped in two across the bridge can be repaired, as good as new.
Usual cost: $45 to $99
Most glasses have metal hinges that are fused in and can be extracted and replaced with a brand new one.
You can fix glasses that are crooked by having them adjusted to fit properly on your face or by taking them to an optician. More often than not, it's best to have your glasses adjusted or repaired professionally.
Temples or Arms: The two long, skinny parts of your eyeglasses that attach via the hinge and stretch back to sit over your ears. They're responsible for keeping your glasses in place while you go about your day.
Will Gorilla Glue work on glasses?
Unlike other common adhesives, Gorilla Glue is excellent for repairing broken glass. It forms a strong, water-resistant bond and dries clear, making it ideal for fixing windows, drinking glasses, and other delicate objects.
For most common glass repairs, Loctite Glass Glue is the go-to choice. Loctite Glass Glue is great for use with all clear, colored, stained, and tinted glass types.
Loctite Glass Glue is the only patented super glue on the market which is specially formulated for bonding glass. Great for repairing broken or cracked glasses, crystal, or jewelry, Loctite Glass Glue forms fast and durable joints without clamping needed.
If you want to bond glass to glass or glass to metal, Loctite Super Glue Glass is the glue you need: As it dries transparent, it leaves invisible bonds that will even work with tinted, stained and crystal glass. It is water and dishwasher resistant and dries in seconds.
Common Repairs | Average Cost | Average time frame |
---|---|---|
Adjustments and Overhauls | $10 to $59 | 24 to 48 hours |
Broken Screws on Eyewear Frames | $12 to $49 | 24 to 48 hours |
Rivets and Bushings | $16 to $59 | 24 to 48 hours |
Scratched and Broken Lenses | See Lens Page | 24 to 72 hours |
One of the top reasons glasses break is because they fall off people's heads. When propped on top of your head, glasses can easily tumble off and can also stretch out, shortening their lifespan. When they're not on your face, get in the habit of storing your glasses properly in a case.
Place the four fingers of your left hand under the temple, with your index finger resting at the natural temple bend to support the frames. Gently bend the temple end up or down in relation to your index finger. Bending the temple end down will tighten your glasses. Bending it up will loosen your glasses.
Most glasses have metal hinges that are fused in and can be extracted and replaced with a new one. But some plastic frames are cast and are made entirely of their respective plastic material, hinges, and more. Almost every plastic frame can be repaired by expert technicians.
Loose screws: Glasses parts will experience wear and tear over time, and it's normal for the hinge screws to loosen somewhat. This can loosen the fit of your frames and cause them to slip downward.
How Should Glasses Fit Your Cheeks? Your glasses shouldn't touch your cheeks or lift up with them when you smile. Instead, they should sit comfortably above your cheeks.
Why do nose pads turn green?
Why does this happen? When you sweat, your skin releases oils and salts. When those oils and salts come into contact with the nose piece, they begin to corrode the metal. That's why you will often see green corrosion on the nose pads of older glasses wearers.
If you can't find any matching eyeglass temple you can request to change your both temples. This way you don't need to find the same ones. You can play with shapes and colors, even the material from which the temples are made. In this way, you can have a special pair of glasses.
If the frame is metal, but not titanium, it can be soldered back together but the break remains a weak point and may break again. If the frame is plastic or titanium there is no way to repair it and a new part needs to be ordered.
Wrap Hair Ties Around Your Glasses Temples
Hair ties are another DIY way to keep your glasses from slipping. For this technique, you'll wrap a thin hair tie over and over around the end of each temple of your glasses until it's gathered in a tight clump.
The armless glasses are manufactured from a black matt rubbex providing an anti-slip grip on the nose and a luxury touch. They attach securely and feel lightweight once sitting on the nose. The nose bridge is expandable too and will fit any size nose shape or size and are suitable for both men & women.
Hold the glasses face up with the lenses facing you. Place the four fingers of your left hand under the temple, with your index finger resting at the natural temple bend to support the frames. Gently bend the temple end up or down in relation to your index finger. Bending the temple end down will tighten your glasses.
With that in mind, if you wear glasses that only have one “arm”, you will find that the glasses will be constantly out of balance, lop-sided, and will easily part company with the head. Also, if they have prescription lenses, the lenses will not be properly aligned in front of your eyes.
